Recently, I responded to a thread in a Customer Education forum about the time and effort required to convert ILT content to eLearning.
Here are some insights I shared that could help you tackle similar projects.
1. Understand the Effort Involved:
Converting ILT to eLearning isn’t just a straightforward copy-paste job. It involves significant content updates to ensure the eLearning flows smoothly and is engaging without an instructor present.
2. Consider the Content-Type:
The time required depends on the type and amount of content. For example: Video-Based Content: 5-7 minutes of video can take around 2 days to produce. Text and Interaction-Based Content: 5-10 minutes of content in tools like Rise can take about 1 day. If you’re using Storyline and incorporating voiceovers, it may take longer, similar to video production times.
3. Treat It as a New Development:
While you have good-quality source content from your ILT, treat the conversion as if you’re developing a new eLearning course. This mindset ensures you allocate enough time and resources for quality eLearning development.
Pro Tip: Don’t underestimate the effort required for these conversions.
Plan meticulously and account for review and rework time.
